Toshi's schol started today, finally.
Today, his first class was Chinese, and he learned how to count
1 to 10 in Chinese. The university Toshi attends is BYU-Idaho.
The university has strong Chinese courses, so Toshi was excited to
study Chinese here. Also, Toshi would do well in Chinese class
because he is advantaged with some Chinese literacy as a Japanese
person to study Chinese with American students. Hopefully, Toshi can do
well at university and receive scholarship. Good luck, Toshi!
By the way, today's outside temperature was 4 degrees below 0C (=23F),
so it was a warmer day. (We are perhaps getting used to cold days.)
I, Yukie was at home all day, and had a relaxing day of cooking and
e-mailing friends. Next week, I will go to university library to a free
English one-on-one once a week. So, I hope I can learn how to speak English
with this opportunity.
Our apartment is less than 5 minutes walk from university, and
15 minutes to the nearest supermarket even with snow.
Having said that, we live in a country surrounded by cars, so
local people are shocked to hear that we are walking to a supermarket.
Our landlord is a Filipino lady, and we live in an apartment
attached to her home. (So, we can hear voices of each other through walls.)
She drives to church only 3 houses behind our apartment.
We think it's faster and cheaper if she walked.
And, I, Yukie didn't go outside, I took a picture of
Toshi worn out after 3 classes of the day. Also, another one
is a picture of our kitchen.
I'll try to take a picture of squirrels around our place tomorrow.
とうとう敏君の学校が始まりました。
今日は中国語の授業が最初で、１から１０までの数字の数え方を学んだそうです。
敏君の通い始めた大学は、ＢＹＵアイダホといいますが、
この大学、中国語が強い大学らしく、敏君も中国語を学ぶのを楽しみにしていました。
しかも日本人にとってアメリカ人と一緒に中国語を学ぶのは、漢字が読める分大変有利らしく、
良い成績を取りやすいと思われます。
いい成績を取って、奨学金がもらえるといいね～。頑張れ敏君！
ところで本日外の気温はｰ４℃でわりと暖かい１日でした。（もう寒さにも慣れてきたかも）
私は１日家にいて、食事作りやら、友人にメールしたりやら、のんびりしていました。
来週になったら、週１回、大学で無料で英語をマンツーマンで毎日教えてもらえるので、
この機会に少しでも話せるようになればと思っています。
ちなみにうちのアパートから、大学までは歩いて５分もかかりません。
1番近いスーパーまでは、雪があっても歩いて15分です。
それでも、こちらはとっても車社会なので、
スーパーに歩いて買い物に行こうとすると現地の人にはとても驚かれます。
うちの大家さんはフィリピン人のご婦人で、
私達は大家さんの家の横につなげて作ったようなアパートに住んでいますが、
（だから大家さんの声はいつも筒抜け）
アパートから３軒先にある教会に行くのにも、大家さんは車で行っています。
絶対歩いた方が早いし安いと思うのですが･･･。
そして今日私は外に行かなかったため、
初日３つの授業が終わって寝室で伸びている敏君と、
アパートのキッチンの写真を写してみました。
明日は家のまわりのリスでも撮ってみようかな。
