Chinese Art and Political Influences /

Japanese follows English.

This is rather a formal title for our blog, but what it is... is
because Toshi is studying Chinese, we went to watch a documentary today
about political influences on Chinese art (for about an hour).
After watching it, there was a 30 minute open question time, and
professors who produced the film spoke to us.
(Unfortunately, Yukie didn't understand what is was, so she cannot introduce.)
Please see the link.

From what Yukie heard from Toshi later, and what Yukie understood from the film,
Chinese artists had a considerable limitations on their free creative activities.
Especially, during the Cultural Revolution, they were imprisoned, and treated with
tremendously roughly.
If they were to draw, they had to use plenty of red colour, and faces of people
had to be all smiling. They mainly had to draw the picture of Mao Zedong.
Only recently after the death of Mao, the Chinese artists can freely enjoy their
creative activities.
Having a freedom of expression is natural for us, but we felt it is actually
very precious.

Then, we moved to the gallery in the university, and saw the Chinese drawings and
woodblock-prints that we saw in the film. Then, that was it.
An important thing is that free food was served there.
Fried meat dumplings were very delicious. There were Cookies and fruits,
raw vegitables, too. Actually, we heard there will be wontons, but we didn't see them.
(A little sad.) So, today's picture is Toshi enjoying the picture in the gallery
while eating.
